Why ?
MD Spur Barrel Horses will proudly share with you the current and past roaster of quality horses in training at all times.
We at MD Spur Barrel Horses look at each horse individually.
Pediagree is a factor; however, we have learned through experience that you cannot ride horses’ papers. Although breeding can often give insight into what might be possible and factually gives reference to the ancestors’ history, breeding is no guarantee. It has also been proven that a horse does not know their structural, conformational, or physical limitations.
Many times we find it’s what is on the inside that makes a barrel horse.
Heart and try are highly important factor’s in the success of a barrel horse.
One of the key factors in making and maintaining a successful barrel horse is the right foundational training. MD Spur Barrel Horses has the proven ability to give your horse the best foundation for success.
Who ?
2008-
Skippen Sprat aka "Ruby" – 2003 AQHA Mare Owned by Max and Bana Vincent,
Ruby is a paternal half sister to Oller’s Scat Cat and Control the Cruise. She came to MD Spur Barrel Horses September 19th, 2007 for barrel horse training. At 3 months and 13 days she was entered in her first barrel race. On Jan. 1, 2008 she won 1st in the 4D at the New Year’s Day Barrel Bowl at Mustang, Ok. Ruby merely cruised the run behind Dashing Sparks ridden by Kendal Owen of Owen Barrel Horses. Dashing
UPDATE: Ruby is steadily improving. She placed 6th in the 3D at the February D & G in Chickasha, Ok and ran a nice 2D time on Saturday February 9th, 2008 at the Shawnee, Ok Central 4D. She was in the top 10% out of over 420 horses. She came back on Sunday and won 1st in the 3D on Sanday. This mare is coming quickly, she will be throttled back a notch over the next couple weeks to insure she retains her fundemantals and excellent mind set. We feel it is key to making sure Ruby is a long-term success stroy rather than a flash in the pan. At MD Spur Barrel Horses our goal is to produce horses that people can enjoy a long time. We put your horses future above all else!

This was only his 2nd trip to town and exhibitions were full so he he went in cold turkey. We feel like he did and outstanding job and is showing great promise!
Monster Cookie Lou – Owned by
Coach’s Rhythm Chant – 2006 AQHA Mare. Sam is now owned by MD Spur Barrel Horses. Sam was recently purchased from Joe Peirce of Freedom, Ok. Just a 3 yr old this coming spring. Sam is one of the gentlest and well started prospects I have purchased! Joe has done a wonderful job breaking this filly to ride!!! She is so nice that I am able to ride her with NO BRIDLE anywhere. In the arena, accross the pasture and I can even open and close gates on her with NO BRIDLE!!!! No matter where I take this mare she NEVER looks or spooks at anyting. She is beginning to lope a nice barrel pattern. Sam is naturally cowy to the barrels and will be ready to exhibition in no time. Watch for when she hits the sale barn page, you don't find nice, broke, gentle prospects like this everyday. Photos and video coming soon!
